Sexual Wellness and Growth
Building upon valuable lessons learned from BlaqOut’s pilot Let’s PrEP! intervention, and with considerable feedback and input from program participants and Community Action Board (CAB) members, BlaqOut has adopted and adapted the Sexual Wellness And Growth (SWAG) curriculum developed by the Interdisciplinary Sexuality Research Collaborative (ISRC) at the Center for Human Sexuality Studies at Widener University. Through this programming, BlaqOut is endeavoring to reach two distinct but equally important audiences: community members and Client Experience Contributors (CECs), such as medical and mental health providers, clinical staff, peers, social service personnel, etc.
Accordingly, the objective of SWAG’s curriculum is two-fold:
- Address the unique and complex identities of Black men
- Address the gap in culturally competent training for social service/healthcare providers that interact with Black men
Taken together, the two halves of this curriculum support Black men, whether directly via community member-oriented, holistic sexual education, or indirectly via provider-oriented competency training, which can improve overall well-being.
