Obie McNair joined BlaqOut in 2025. He serves as the Senior Manager of Community Health Research, producing and accessing community data to better understand and empower the Black LGBTQ+ community and contribute to the larger body of scientific knowledge to promote equity for all.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from Tougaloo College, followed by a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He later completed his PhD in Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, where his research focused on the impact of obesity, high blood pressure, and factors associated with both among African American sexual minority men.

Obie has long been passionate about public health research, with a particular focus on HIV/STI prevention, Black men’s health, and Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) practices. Throughout his career, he has participated in several fellowships that have further honed his expertise, including the Young Black Gay Leadership Initiative (2014-2016), the Creating Responsible Intelligent Black Brothers Fellowship (2015-2016), and the Rise Up Youth Champions Initiative (2017).
