PrEP, or pre-exposure prophylaxis, is medicine that reduces your chances of getting HIV from sex or injection drug use when taken as prescribed. PrEP can be pills or shots.

PEP, or post-exposure prophylaxis, is medicine taken to prevent HIV infection after a possible exposure. PEP should be used only in emergency situations and must be started within 72 hours after a recent possible exposure to HIV.

If you’re Black and queer in the Kansas City metro, inclusive safe spaces that give you the freedom to let your guard down and truly be yourself are nearly nonexistent. BlaqOut provides easily accessible, no-cost healthcare access without stigma or judgment, allowing our members to feel safe being who they are and affirmed in their identities, and grow to become happy, healthy, and productive.

We call the people that are part of BlaqOut members — not “patients” or “clients” — because members have ownership in the vision and the work that they are contributing to. We believe that is our role, together, and what our community needs.

No! If you don’t have your own insurance, BlaqOut can provide services and medication at no cost to you.

No! At BlaqOut, we often say that our organization is Black owned, but not Black only. While our core membership, the Black LGBTQ+ community, will always be prioritized through the services and partnerships that we offer, we believe that there is space for all! In fact, over 20% of BlaqOut’s membership is non-Black.

No! As a health clinic, BlaqOut respects and protects the medical privacy of its members and maintains full HIPAA compliance. As a health clinic whose core demographic is the Black, queer community, we take safeguarding our member’s information a step further by offering additional privacy measures on an as-needed basis.

Your medication can either be sent directly to your place of residence or to BlaqOut’s office, where it can be collected during business hours.

If you don’t want your PrEP prescription mailed to you, your prescription can be sent directly to BlaqOut’s office, where it can be discreetly collected during business hours.

Walk-in appointments are available on an as-needed basis, as the appointment schedule allows. To check availability, text or call (816) 609-2928.

BlaqOut offers transportation service to and from appointments at no-cost to you via Uber. If you need transportation to your appointment, please text or call (816) 609-2928.
